Weeks 1-3: Seeing, Observing & Visual Foundation
Build the essential skills every illustrator needs by learning to truly see the world around you. Develop confidence with drawing, shape, form and colour while letting go of perfectionism and embracing curiosity. By the end of this phase, you'll understand how strong illustrations begin with careful observation and simple visual thinking.

Weeks 4-6: Composition, Characters & Visual Storytelling
Discover how to turn drawings into illustrations that tell a story. Learn the principles of composition, create engaging characters and design environments that bring ideas to life with clarity, personality and purpose. You'll begin making images that don't just look good—they communicate.

Weeks 7-8: Narrative, Materials & Creative Expression
Explore the power of storytelling through comics, sequential images, texture and materials. Experiment with different ways of making images while developing confidence in your creative decisions and discovering how process, play and exploration lead to stronger illustration.
Experiment • Express • Refine
Weeks 9-10: Visual Voice, Refinement & Growth
Bring everything together as you complete a finished illustration and reflect on your creative journey. Explore the beginnings of your visual voice, refine your strongest work and leave with greater confidence, a stronger creative foundation and a clearer sense of where your illustration practice can take you.

Dan Woodger is an illustrator & animation director living and working in Kingston Upon Thames, London. He's known for creating colourful, playful, character-based work designed to brighten your day and make you smile.
Inspired by a childhood diet of 90's cartoons Dan's work is an invitation to never grow up & to always find humour in the stupid world around us.

Lily Kong
Illustrator
Lily Kong is an artist and illustrator from Hong Kong, now living in London. Her work is a heartfelt exploration of nostalgia, joy, and the emotions that connect us.
She has previously collaborated with clients including Hermès, Montblanc, Tate, and has taught in Graphic Communication Design at Central Saint Martins, UAL.

Live Session — Wednesday 23rd September at 1pm BST (GMT+1)
Your pre-course creative toolkit will be released one week before our live Sketchbook Kick-Off to help you get prepared, inspired and ready to begin. The session will be recorded, so if you can’t join us live, you’ll be able to catch up and take part in your own time.
